Jacksonville, Florida is located on the Atlantic coast of Florida and is just south of the Georgia State line. It is the largest city by land area in the continental United States and has the largest urban park system in the nation with over 300 parks on 80,000 acres of land. The city is also home to two U.S. Navy bases and the third largest seaport in the U.S., the Port of Jacksonville. The city was named after Andrew Jackson a year after the U.S. acquired Florida. Andrew Jackson was the first military governor of the Florida territory and the seventh president of the United States.

Jacksonville is the home of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars and the city often hosts college football games at their EverBank Field. The most prominent college football event is the classic game between the University of Florida and the University of Georgia, where the pregame activities have been nicknamed as “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.” Join the party by renting an apartment in Jacksonville, or relax in one of the city’s many parks.

Jacksonville is home to several colleges and universities including the University of North Florida, Edward Water’s College and Florida State College at Jacksonville. Among the several parks located in Jacksonville, is Tree Hill Nature Center which is located five minutes away from downtown. Located within the park there is an environmental education center and a wildlife area. Also, on the last Saturday of April in the Joseph A. Strasser Amphitheater there is a  popular Butterfly Festival. The Ronnie Van Zant Memorial Park is another park located in Green Cove Springs, a suburb of Jacksonville, was built in memory of the Lynard Skynyrd lead singer who grew up in Jacksonville.

Several Jacksonville natives have been successful musicians throughout the years, including Limp Bizkit, Shinedown and Lynyrd Skynyrd. There are also several historical theatres in Jacksonville, including, The Florida Theatre, Theatre Jacksonville and The Ritz Theatre where legendary musicians such as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Ray Charles performed.
